Hysterectomy

Removal of Uterus. It is a very common type of surgery.

Types of Hysterectomy:

  • Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH): Removal of uterus, fallopian tubes and ovary through laparoscopy
  • Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH): In this procedure is done by laparoscopy where cervix is being kept and only uterus will be removed
  • Laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy: Procedure is done is laparoscope where the removal of the uterus and/or fallopian tubes and ovaries through the vagina.

Fibroids removal

Fibroids are noncancerous tumors in the muscle of the uterus.

Types of Fibroid removal surgery:

  • Laparoscopic Myomectomy: Removing fibroids from the wall of the uterus
  • Hysterecopic Myomecty: Hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and the then fibroid can be remove through the vagina

Ovarian cyst removal

An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac, develops on ovary. Every cyst is not required to be removed. Only large sized or cyst having suspect of some abnormalities need to be removed. This can be done laparoscopically.

Diagnostic Hysteroscopy

This is done to evaluate endometrium and other abnormalities in uterus.

Removing Uterine Polyps

Uterine polyps are noncancerous growth on the inner wall of the uterus. It can cause irregular menses, heavy flow, pain during menstruation. Gynaecologist may recommend to remove it. Hysteroscopy is done to remove it.

Tubal ligation

Can be done laparoscopically for family planning.

Uterine cancer

There are two main types of Uterine cancer.

  • Endometrial (most common)
  • Uterine Sarcoma (rare)

This represents with symptoms like vaginal bleeding in between periods, Vaginal discharge, Lower abdominal pain, Prolonged bleeding due menses. The can be diagnosed with Physical examination, Ultrasound, CTScan, Blood tests, Endometrial biopsy, Hysteroscopy. This requires multidisciplinary treatment. Means Surgery, Hormonal therapy, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Target Therapy, Immuno Therapy etc.

Types of surgeries require (depending upon the involved area)

  • Vaginal hysterectomy
  • Radical hysterectomy
  • Total abdominal hysterectomy
  • Lymph node dissection

Ovarian cancer

When abnormal cells grows in ovaries or fallopian tubes and multiply out of control it causes Ovarian cancer. Causes can be Age, Habits (smoking or tobacco chewing), Obesity, Endometriosis, Family history, Infertility etc. This represents with symptoms like vaginal bleeding in between periods, Vaginal discharge, Lower abdominal pain, Prolonged bleeding due menses. The can be diagnosed with Physical examination, Ultrasound, CTScan, Blood tests, Endometrial biopsy, Hysteroscopy. This requires multidisciplinary treatment. Means Surgery, Hormonal therapy, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Target Therapy, Immuno Therapy etc.

Types of surgeries require (depending upon the involved area)

  • Bilateral Salpingo oophorectomy (removal of ovary and fallopian tubes)
  • Lymph node dissection

Ectopic pregnancy

When ova/egg fertilized outside the uterus/ womb it's called Ectopic pregnancy. Mostly this happens in fallopian tubes and rarely in cervix or abdomen. The rate of occurrence Ectopic pregnancy is 2%. An ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition that requires emergency treatment.

This is characterized with Symptoms like Vaginal bleeding, Giddiness, lower abdominal pain. This can happen if you have blockage in fallopian tubes, previous surgery, congenital irregular fallopian tubes, STDs, History of PID, Infertility, Endometriosis, Smoking or tobacco chewing habit etc. This can be diagnosed from urine test, blood test, Ultrasound. As soon as it get diagnosed it requires emergency surgery. This can be done Laparoscopically.
